Lauren Johnson-Norris has served Orange County and the surrounding Southern California region as a criminal defense and child welfare attorney for nearly two decades. Her reputation as a compassionate, persuasive, and highly effective lawyer precedes her. Her work has earned her awards and recognition, and she represented appellants in three successful published cases before California Courts of Appeal.
Born and raised in Southern California, Lauren Johnson-Norris was the first in her family to graduate college and go on to become a successful criminal defense lawyer. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Pitzer College, a private liberal arts college and part of the Claremont Colleges. At Pitzer College, she tutored homeless children and served on the Campus Aesthetics Committee to support public art on campus.
After graduation, Lauren Johnson-Norris moved to New York to attend the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, where she shined in the criminal defense and criminal appeals clinics. The only student selected to try a jury trial in her law school class, Lauren Johnson-Norris received the Archie A. Gorfinkle Award for the Most Promising Graduate Entering Criminal Law.
After law school, Lauren Johnson-Norris returned home to California to serve as a Deputy Public Defender with the Orange County Public Defender’s Office. She represented clients in misdemeanor and felony jury trials and parents in juvenile dependency cases.
Lauren Johnson-Norris launched her own firm, Johnson Criminal Law Group in 2009. Since then she has earned the reputation as the “go-to” parent’s lawyer in Orange County. She frequently is called upon to assist other lawyers with dependency cases and handle appeals for parents throughout the state.
In addition to her distinguished legal career, Lauren Johnson-Norris has served in leadership roles in Orange County. She served four years as a Community Services Commissioner in Irvine and as Chair of the Irvine Children Youth and Families Advisory Committee. She served two years on the Irvine Finance Commission as well as the Investment Advisory Board. She currently serves as a Board Member of the Orange County Human Relations Commission.
Lauren Johnson-Norris believes that partnerships between community stakeholders and the courts are critical in the delivery of justice to the public, especially the most vulnerable among us.
Lauren Johnson-Norris lives in Irvine with her husband, two daughters, two Labrador Retrievers, and two rescue cats. When she is not seeking justice in the community, she enjoys walking Irvine’s open space trails and cheering on her daughters at their soccer games.
